Vintage Universal Studios Remote Control Follow Focus For BNC 3 Movie Camera
Appears to be a selsyn interlock motor follow focus. Most likely made at Universal as the studio would make custom equipment from time to time. It would have been used with a remote motor that was mounted on the camera so it could turn the focus control on the taking lens.
The round cards were for the camera assistant to index the focus positions during the filming. As the assistant cameraman turned the handle on the remote box, the motor on the camera would turn the focus gear on the lens a corresponding amount so the subject would be in focus during the shot.
